Chicago's Uptown neighborhood was once the epicenter of entertainment in Chicago with its many theaters, like the Aragon Ballroom, The Riviera, and the Uptown Theater. However, while other venues continued to be used, the Uptown Theater was left to ruin. Currently it is in a state of decay and since its closure in 1981, many groups have held fundraisers and other efforts to restore the movie palace which seats almost 4,500 people. Artists like Bob Marley, Prince and many others have passed through the Uptown.
Finally, after many efforts, it has been announced that $75 million has been set to help restore the Uptown and open it within two years.
