Weight Loss Surgery Becoming More Common Among Children, Teen

Weight loss surgery for children and teens is becoming more common, according to new research. Data published Tuesday in JAMA Pediatrics shows metabolic and bariatric surgeries among young people aged ten to 19 have been rising over the past seven years. The report says weight loss surgeries for children and teens stayed strong during the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, even as the number of surgeries for adults slipped. Weight loss surgeries for young people jumped 19-percent between 2020 and 2021.
