In order for your teen to work they must FIRST get a permit
The Illinois Department of Labor is making sure teens younger than 16 & parents know they need to obtain a work permit in order to legally work in Illinois. There are strict policies such as Child labor laws to keep teens safe. If your child is younger than 16 they must obtain a letter of intent to hire from an employer. They must then have a school administrator to review the letter & decide if the work permit will be issued. Those under 16 may work three hours per school day and up to 24 hours per week while school is in session.
