Mayor Thomas McDermott says a new law requires gas stations to close between midnight and 5 a. m. to help reduce overnight crime. He added that three warning tickets have been issued to gas station owners who were unaware that the law had taken effect early this morning. The ordinance also allows gas stations to petition the Board of Public Works and Safety for an exception to the rule.
