A new report from the Biden administration claims several HBCUs initially established as land grant colleges back in the 1800s, are owed more than 13-billion dollars in back pay. Letters sent to the governors of 16 states say the amount represents what the colleges should have been awarded over the last 30 years or so. The letters signed by Education Secretary Miguel Cordona and Agriculture Secretary Thomas Vilsak, cited data from the National Center for Education Statistics to support their claims.
