New Illinois Law Aims To End Stigma About GEDs

The GED is getting a new name starting next month. Illinois Community College Board spokesman Matt Berry says a new state law is designed to remove the stigma about getting a GED instead of graduating with a traditional high school diploma. Starting January 1, it will be known as the State of Illinois High School diploma. Requirements to pass will remain the same. Those with a GED certificate can request a replacement at their local regional office of education.
