Sister Rosetta Tharpe was the first recording artist of gospel music, she was born on March 20, 1915, She had a mass appeal to blues & rock and roll enthusiast who referred to her as "the original soul sister" as well as the "Godmother of rock and roll, she was a master of her gift of guitar techniques which is why she influenced many well known musicians like Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and many more. She was willing to cross barriers between gospel & secular music by sharing her gift, she shared her gift in places that conservative churchgoers frowned upon, even though she may have offended some in the church, she never walked away from her gospel roots. Tharpe pushed spiritual music into the mainstream and helped to expose more people to gospel. Sister Rosetta Tharpe's unique gift to music has left a lasting mark on more conventional gospel artists In 1944 she released the still popular today, "Down By The Riverside" which was selected for the National Recording Registry of the U.S Library of Congress, her influence in Rhythm-and-Blues, "Gospel" and Rock and Roll has shaped history & shall never be forgotten.
