REMINDER: New Illinois moving violations and taxes go into effect tomorrow

Don't get caught using your phone while driving.

Starting tomorrow police are no longer giving out warnings, instead they will be giving out moving violations.

You can receive a moving violation for:

  • texting or talking on the phone while driving, at a stop sign, at a red light, or while you're sitting in traffic
  • accessing the maps app

The only exceptions to these are if you're reporting an emergency, if you pull over to the side of the road or if you use hands-free technology like bluetooth, but you must be at least 18 years or older in order to use hands-free tech.

If you receive 3 moving violations in a year, your license will be suspended.

Also starting tomorrow, the gas tax will go from $.19 to $.38 and the tax on cigarettes will increase by $1.
