You soon may not have to pump your own gas! An Illinois state lawmaker has proposed a bill that would only allow gas station attendants to pump gas into people's cars.
While the lawmaker hasn't completely said why they proposed the bill, reports say it is likely due to fire safety to help with people who may leave their engine running, smoke or use their phone while pumping. More than 5,000 gas station fires have been reported every year in America and many of them are due to vehicle fires at the pump.
The Gas Station Attendant Act would create more jobs, but it would also likely cause a higher gas tax.
Reports say the lawmaker wants the law to go into effect starting in 2021.
