A change is coming to Chicago's system of fines and fees and Mayor Lori Lightfoot is making sure of it.
Today, July 23rd, the mayor announced her proposal to reform the system including eliminating driver's license suspensions for non-driving violations, reducing city sticker penalties and making payment plans more accessible.
Lightfoot says nearly 2/3 of the bankruptcies in Cook County include vehicle debt to the city of Chicago. While her reforms could possibly mean millions of dollars in revenue loss for the city, the new mayor believes everything will even out.
