While many are happy, many others are truly upset that Ariel in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid will be played by an African-American.
Disney made the announcement that Halle Bailey will take on the role of Ariel. Bailey sings with her sister and the two rose to fame after they got started on Youtube and then were eventually signed by Beyoncé.
Not long after the news broke that Bailey will be Ariel, many protested the idea that the Disney Princess can be played by an African-American.
Bailey has not released any statements about the backlash, but Keke Palmer who played Cinderella in a live-action remake had a lot to say.
