While we may be enjoying the 3-day weekend and all of the barbecue, on Memorial Day we must remember to honor all those who have fallen fighting for our country.
Here are 4 things to know about Memorial Day:
- It began as a response to the Civil War. Sadly more than 620,000 soldiers died.
- Major General John A. Logan Logan was the man who was instrumental in making Memorial Day an official holiday.
- The day was made official so people could "decorate the graves of soldiers who died in defense of their country."
- Memorial Day was previously known as Decoration Day.
