This morning, 3 children are mourning the loss of their mother. Candice Dickerson was shot and killed by a stray bullet Friday, April 26th while on the Southwest side of Chicago in a cellphone store with her sons.
Reports say that Dickerson was trying to buy her son a cellphone to reward him for doing well in school. She was struck by a stray bullet in the back of her head while she was at the counter of Metro PCS on 59th and Kedzie.
Dickerson was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Her 12 year old son, Jacarey - who was with her at the time of the shooting, says,"I thought that maybe she'd be able to survive, but when we got to the hospital, she did not survive."
Police are still investigating and searching for the shooter. Employees at the Metro PCS lit candles the next day to remember the mother of 3.
Jacarey says his mother didn't have a lot of money, but always tried to give him and his siblings everything they needed.
Dickerson's children are with their grandparents for right now.
