According to Time Out Chicago there are so many things to still take advantage of like:

Aug 11 Bud Billiken Parade; Martin Luther King Dr from 35th to 55th Drill teams, marching bands and dance squads filled Martin Luther King Drive during this annual back-to-school parade, which celebrates African-American students from throughout Chicago.
Aug 31–Sept 3 African Festival of the Arts; Washington Park A recreation of an African village pops up in Washington Park, where visitors will find vendors selling drums, quilts, fine art and other handmade goods." (Time Out Chicago, see the rest of the list here.)
