Clifford Alexander, First Black U.S. Army Secretary Dies

Black Excellence and Black History! Clifford Alexander Jr., the nation's first Black secretary of the Army has died. He was 88. His wife confirmed on Monday that died at the couple's home in Manhattan on Sunday. Clifford Alexander was raised in Harlem and educated at Harvard. He helped shepherd the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965 and became President Lyndon Johnson's personal consultant on civil rights.
