The 'Riverdale' Cast Paid Tribute To Luke Perry At Season 4 Table Read

Riverdale has started production on its upcoming fourth season. Though the cast members and fans alike are surely excited for what's next for Archie, Betty, Jughead and Veronica, it's definitely bittersweet to see the show go on without Luke Perry. The 52-year-old actor, who played Archie's dad Fred Andrews, passed away in March after suffering a massive stroke. His cast mates made sure to honor Luke at their first table read without him.

Mädchen Amick shared a photo of the main cast sitting down to read the first season four scripts. “There was nothing but love, memories and mourning for our beloved Luke as we honor him in our first episode back,” she wrote. The actress also added a few hashtags in honor of Luke, as well, including #wemissyouluke and #inmemoriam.

Mädchen "In Memoriam" hashtag doubles as a reference to the season four premiere's episode title. Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed this bit of information on Twitter last month. “Probably the most important episode of Riverdale we’ll do this year, if not ever,” he shared. “A tribute to our fallen friend. Thankful for this opportunity to honor Luke & Fred."

Though Luke passed away while the third season was in production, his absence was not addressed on the show during that time. “When Luke passed, it was such a shock, and it was devastating and we kind of have to deal with the emotion of that, and then you have to figure out everything that comes next,” the Riverdale creator explained to E! in May. “We didn’t know how we wanted to deal with it. You know, you’re just reacting. So, we thought rather than do it quickly or do it wrong, let’s take our time, let’s figure it out, and let’s deal with it at the beginning of season 4.”

Though the season four premiere date for Riverdale has not yet been announced, we know one thing for sure: we'll need our tissues for this one.
